Maintenance Technician

Precon Manufacturing is looking for an individual to join our team as a Maintenance Technician at our Coalhurst, Alberta location.

Our Maintenance Technicians are responsible for proactive maintenance and repair of our facility, concrete production machinery, and mobile equipment. The successful individual must be able to take initiative, problem-solve, and must be comfortable working independently without supervision. Together with the maintenance team, this role is proactive about keeping our plant, machinery, and equipment operating at peak condition which contributes to the success and quality of our product.

Location: Coalhurst, AB
Compensation: Commensurate with previous experience.
Hours: Facility operational hours are typically 6:00am-4:30pm. However due to the nature of this position, the candidate must be willing to work overtime, on-call, and weekends if required.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform CWB welding per established procedures and quality standards.
  • Support welding requirements in both production and maintenance environments.
  • Interpretation of welding procedures and blueprints.

Preventative and Corrective Maintenance

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment and building systems.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Assemble, install, and commission new machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and implement equipment improvements.

Facility and Equipment Support

  • Complete general building maintenance tasks including painting, door repair, and minor plumbing.
  • Operate tools and equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, and aerial work platforms.
  • Maintain documentation and logs of maintenance activities.

Safety and Team Collaboration

  • Participate in Toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Follow the health and safety program and contribute to a safety-first workplace culture.
  • Work staggered shifts and provide overtime and weekend coverage as needed.

Requirements:

  • Your dedication to safety is essential in this role, as your work directly impacts the reliability, safety, and longevity of the equipment that our staff rely on. You fully embrace our H&S program, demonstrating complete dedication to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Journeyperson Welder certification.
  • Experience as a CWB Supervisor is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic; you can interact effectively with others to divide and conquer weekly and daily tasks; you can also work independently to get things done.
  • Active tickets and competency is an asset with: Aerial Work Platform, Fall Protection, Confined & Restricted Space, Forklift Operation, Overhead Crane Operation.
  • Must possess reliable transportation, as well as valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed to support our teams.

Bonus Points for:

  • Prior experience in industrial welding, carpentry, heavy-duty mechanic/heavy equipment, or other mechanical applications would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient with computers, programs such as Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
  • Valid WHMIS 2015 certificate.

Work Conditions and Context:

  • Travel: Valid class 5 drivers’ license, clean driving record, and readily available transportation to and from work are required. Precon is located outside of Lethbridge so travel is required. Use of shop truck is also required to pick up or drop off local parts, supplies or small equipment for repair. Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may also be expected for training purposes.
  • Conditions: We are a manufacturing/production facility; work will take place in a manufacturing environment with overhead and other hazards.
    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (e., hard hat, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, fall arrest harness, hearing protection, mask, etc.).
    Work will involve conditions of heat, cold, dust, noise, wind, and will be performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures. Will also involve climbing ladders, working at heights (on ladders/aerial lift), lift 50 pounds, working in awkward positions on machinery/equipment.
  • Equipment and Machinery: This position will be required to operate various hand/power tools (table saw, drills, grinders) and hoisting and lifting equipment (aerial platform lift). If certified and competent, this individual may occasionally operate other equipment such as forklift, skid steer, etc.
  • Technology: Use of technology, phones, computers, and programs, etc. is required.
  • Telecommuting/Working from home: Not available.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers.
